Review Week 12

How can you, as the designer, use principles of design to help compose a page?
You can use principles of design to create a mood for your design. This will give your viewers a certain feeling when they look at your design. For example when you see certain types of lines your viewers get certain feelings. (diagonal-movement)

What are the principles of design (define each in your own words)?

Balance-the organization of light and heavy elements in a design.
Contrast-when two related elements are different.
Emphasis- the stressing of a certain area of focus apart from the other details in a design.
Figure/Ground-figure, the part of the design one pays attention to, and ground, the surrounding area around the figure.
Proportion/Scale-the relative size and scale of the different elements in a design.
Repetition-repeating some element or aspect of a design throughout the entire design.
Rhythm-continuity, recurrence, or organized movement in space and time that is achieved through the orderly repetition of any element.
Unity/Variety-unity, the wholeness of a composition, and variety, the differences and diversity in a design.
